AICD Community Visions Focus Group Eight: Cultural & Historic Preservation

Focus Group Eight is centered on gathering community feedback to identify what essential resources, support, and spaces are needed to bolster the Cultural & Historic Preservation of our local American Indian/Alaskan Native community. This event is being hosted in partnership with The Association of Ramaytush Ohlone (ARO), The Cultural Conservancy(TCC), and American Indian Cultural Center (AICC).

AICD Native American Heritage Month #Indigenize SF Celebration

Join the AICD Indigenize SF Celebration Native American Heritage Month Celebration, happening on November 19th. Join the American Indian Cultural District and the American Indian Cultural Center of San Francisco to celebrate Native American Heritage Month and learn more about the Indigenize SF Project. Indigenize SF is part of the citywide Indigenize Project, a placemaking and placekeeping initiative focused on honoring and celebrating American Indian culture, history, people, and contributions. Through art installations, pole banners, street signs, a mapping genocide project, and QR digital walking tours, the project creates interactive experiences that confront systemic erasure and expand the rich cultural heritage of San Francisco. The initiative increases public awareness and elevates the visibility of local Native American culture and history through an Indigenous lens. Community Visions Focus Group Four: Arts & Culture focused on gathering feedback from the local American Indian community around arts & culture priorities. Attendees shared their visions around the AICD Indigenize Project including murals, artworks, banners, sculptures, and events, projects, and initiatives to help shape the future of arts & culture in our Cultural District!
Feedback gathered from AICD Community Visions Focus Group Gatherings and online surveys will help shape an official community-driven strategies report. The report is a three-year planning document that will be adopted by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the Mayor to guide the allocation of resources and support to meet the needs of the local American Indian community.

Community Visions Focus Group Three: Education was focused on gathering feedback around PreK-12, post-secondary higher education, and cultural education priorities for the local American Indian community.
AICD Community Visions Focus Group One: Housing

Community Visions Focus Group One Gathering on Housing was held at Friendship House Association of American Indians 56 Julian Avenue in San Francisco, CA. 94103 in the heart of the American Indian Cultural District.
At this event, attendees shared their feedback to help shape the official three-year AICD strategy report (Cultural Heritage Housing Economic Sustainability Strategies Report) that will be adopted by the SF Board of Supervisors and the Mayor. Focus Group Gathering #1 will be focused on Housing.
This was an opportunity to learn more about ways to get involved and support AICD initiatives including the Cultural Heritage Housing Economic Sustainability Strategies Report (CHHESS Report), the Housing Element, and the Village SF!
American Indian Cultural District Town Hall & Three Year Anniversary Celebration

The Town Hall is open to the public and will feature updates on AICD's 2023 events and priorities and provide opportunities to get involved in AICD initiatives such as the Cultural Heritage Housing Economic Sustainability Strategies Report (CHHESS) and the first San Francisco American Indian Historic Context Statement!
American Indian Community Mural Paint Night in Golden Gate Park
September 20th-28, 2022
The American Indian Cultural District in partnership with Illuminate, Paint the Void, and artist Rachel Znerold invite you to join us for an uplifting evening of community mural painting on JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park to help paint a mural called “WE Are On Native Land.” To participate in community mural paint night meet at the Conservatory of Flowers at 100 John F Kennedy Dr between 4 PM - 7PM.
The mural is intended to create a collective understanding of being on and connected to the land and honor Indigenous animals, plants, and people as the first stewards of Golden Gate Park in Yelamu.
AICD Third Annual Toy Drive

AICD, in partnership with the American Indian Film Institute, hosts our 3rd annual AICD Warm Clothing & Toy Drive for Winter 2023! Please consider donating new warm clothing items such as gloves, beanies, scarves, and blankets for the SF American Indian community. We are also looking for donations of new toys, games, gift cards for Native youth ages 3-16 yrs.

Community Visions Virtual Focus Group Listening Session: Land Use

We are excited to team up with our sister organization Friendship House to host a virtual Zoom listening session on Wednesday, October 11th, from 12:30 pm - 2 pm for Community Visions related to Focus Group Two: Land Use. The purpose of hosting this listening session is to provide an additional opportunity to identify community priorities around land use.
In addition to gathering information for our Cultural Heritage Housing Economic and Sustainability Strategies (CHHESS) Report, we will also be using the information gathered to help inform SF Planning on what types of positive physical features (community gardens, trees, pharmacies, farmer's markets, ground-level grocery stores) the community would like to see as part of a city-wide development review process.

Community Visions Focus Group Two: Climate Resilience & Land Use

We invite the local American Indian community to join us for the second American Indian Cultural District (AICD) Focus Group Gathering on Thursday, September 14th from 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM at the Crissy Field Center, 603 Mason Street, San Francisco, California, 94129.
Focus Group Gathering #2: Land Use & Climate Resilience will help us gather feedback on topics such as cultural land use, gathering spaces, support for cultural craft vendors, community gardens, climate and disaster ready centers, and traditional ecological knowledge.
All feedback gathered from each AICD Focus Group Gathering will be used to help shape an official community driven strategies report called the CHHESS Report (Cultural Heritage Housing Economic Sustainability Strategies Report). The CHHESS report is a three year planning document outlining community driven priorities which will be adopted by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the Mayor to guide allocation of resources and support to meet the needs of the local American Indian community.
Clean Streets Happy Hearts 16th Street

Join the American Indian Cultural District in partnership with CALLE24, MEDA, MMA, CLECHA, and DPW for the second 16th St. Calle Limpia Corazón Contento (Clean Street Happy Heart) Program to revitalize the 16th St. and Mission St. Corridor.
The event is focused on street cleaning through a culturally relevant community building practice and to provide support and important information to the community street vendors and small businesses.

First Annual American Indian Cultural District Activation

At this family friendly event focused on Native arts, culture, health and wellness you will learn more about the Cultural District, San Francisco American Indian Serving orgs and support local businesses and vendors while enjoying live entertainment from the inter-tribal American Indian/Native Alaskan community.
AICD ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY & CULTURAL HUB GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION

Event activities include celebrating with traditional song & dance, recognizing American Indian leadership, recognizing elected officials who support AICD, updates from SF American Indian organizations, youth murals, and basket making demonstrations. EXPLORING THE URBAN AMERICAN INDIAN EXPERIENCE IN YELAMU

The American Indian Cultural District is partnering with the San Francisco Urban Film Festival this year for a film screening followed by a moderated panel to discuss the urban Indian experience in San Francisco and the American Indian Cultural District.
